ATTICUS, chestnut, 1992, by Nureyev--Athyka, by Secretariat.
A
Grade 1 Stakes Winner
By Leading Sire Nureyev
Atticus set a world record for one mile, 1:31.89, when he won the Grade 2 Arcadia Handicap on Santa Anita's flat turf course in 1997. Atticus also won the Grade 1 Oaklawn Handicap in that 5-year-old season, but his racing career began successfully long before that. The Kentucky-bred broke his maiden at 2 in France and at 3 won the Group 3 Prix de Fontainebleu and missed by just a neck in running second in the classic Dubai Poule d'Essai des Poulains (G1), the French Two Thousand Guineas. Atticus returned to the United States to race at 4, taking the Grade 3 Kentucky Cup Classic at Turfway Park and finishing third in the Grade 2 Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile Stakes at Hollywood Park. He retired with seven wins in 18 starts over four seasons and earnings of $1,205,933. Atticus boasts a pedigree to match his race record. He's by champion racehorse and leading sire Nureyev out of the outstanding Secretariat mare Athyka, winner of five group stakes in France. He offers the potent Northern Dancer sire line and through his dam the Bold Ruler/*Nasrullah line as well. Atticus is the sire of 119 winners and more than $8,300,000 from his first seven crops to race, including five graded stakes winners. His Average Earnings Index is 1.22; his Sire Production Index is even better--1.45. Atticus
