$125,000 Incentive Plan Announced
For California Stallion Bedford Falls
Foals by the second-year California stallion Bedford Falls may be eligible for a new incentive program valued at $125,000, it was announced prior to the 2010 breeding season.
Under the program, entitled "The $125,000 Bedford Falls Complete Bonus Package", breeders and owners of Bedford Falls foals who accomplish certain racing milestones may receive cash awards of $5,000, $12,500 or $25,000 each, depending upon the levels of racing success by those runners:
Breeder's Bonus:
- Breeder(s) of first 10 runners by Bedford Falls to break their maiden: $5,000 bonus each
- Breeder of first runner by Bedford Falls to win a black-type stakes race: $12,500 bonus
- Breeder of first runner by Bedford Falls to win a graded stakes race: $25,000 bonus
Owner's Bonus:
- Owner of first runner by Bedford Falls to win a black-type stakes race: $12,500 bonus
- Owner of first runner by Bedford Falls to win a graded stakes race: $25,000 bonus
Certain rules of eligibility and race qualifications apply. Foals bred by the individual or joint members of the Bedford Falls Partnership are not eligible for the Breeder's Bonus, but may be eligible for the Owner's Bonus if they are sold.
Bedford Falls is a multiple winner by Forestry who stands at Poplar Meadows in Sanger, California. The 7-year-old stallion, who sold for $1.1 million at the 2004 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and retired to stud in 2009, is a half-brother to the multiple Grade 1-winning sire Harlan's Holiday, whose three crops have earned more than $9 million and include 2007 CashCall Futurity (G1) winner Into Mischief.
Bedford Falls' first foals will be 2-year-olds in 2012. His 2010 fee is $2,500, live foal guarantee.
