Category Five was the winner of the North Dakota Thoroughbred Association's award as the state's leading sire of 2007. Click here to see the trophy. He recently repeated his dominance as the state's leading sire of 2008.
Category Five, a son of the premier sire Storm Cat from a powerful female family crowded with stakes winners, has brought an outstanding pedigree and proven sire power to North Dakota.
Category Five broke his maiden at 2 in maiden special weight company at Monmouth Park; at 3, he won an allowance race at Delaware Park.
Category Five is off to a successful start at stud. From seven crops of racing age, he has sired four stakes horses, led by the multiple stakes winner Edgerrin ($442,370). His total progeny earnings are more than $1.6 million.
Category Five's sire, Storm Cat, has sired 171 stakes winners (104 graded!) and the collective earners of more than $117 million, including eight champions and the successful sires Giant’s Causeway, Tale of the Cat, Stormy Atlantic, Forest Wildcat, Bernstein, Hennessy, Forestry and many others.
Category Five is out of a winning, stakes-placed Nodouble mare. His second dam is the great foundation mare Cool Mood, the predecessor of numerous stakes winners, including champions With Approval and Izvestia.
Category Five stands his third season at Mesa Farms in Zahl, North Dakota in 2009 at a fee of only $3,500, live foal guarantee, with special considerations to stakes-winning and stakes-producing mares.
