Cromwell, a son of twice leading sire A. P. Indy, boasts a pedigree that reads like a sire Hall of Fame, including Bold Ruler, Buckpasser, Native Dancer, Nashua, Northern Dancer, *Princequillo, Secretariat, Raise a Native, Nijinsky 2nd, Seattle Slew, and Mr. Prospector.

Cromwell won a maiden special weight race at Santa Anita by 5 1/2 lengths and went on to win three allowance races at Keeneland and Churchill Downs, from seven furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth, and placed third in the $75,000-added Rushway Stakes at Turfway Park. He earned $137,283.
