DECARCHY was bred to run, and bred to succeed as a stallion. His sire, the Mr. Prospector stallion Distant View, was a champion 3-year-old in England who went on to sire the English champion Observatory and the $2.4 million-earner Sightseek, a seven-time Grade 1 winner in the United States. His female family is also of the highest quality; he is a half-brother to four Grade 1 winners out of 2002 Broodmare of the Year Toussaud, including North America's 2009 leading third-crop sire, Empire Maker.
DECARCHY broke his maiden by 7 lengths at 2 in England but didn't flourish until he came to the United States at 4. He won his first three starts in the U. S. and ran second in the fourth, beaten a half-length in the Grade 2 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park.
DECARCHY ran even better as an older horse. At 4 and 5, he won graded stakes at Santa Anita and Golden Gate Fields and placed in four other graded stakes, including the Grade 1 Eddie Read Handicap at Del Mar.
DECARCHY was at his best at distances ranging from a flat mile to a mile and an eighth, a profile shared by many successful sires, including Storm Cat.
DECARCHY has established himself as one of the most successful and consistent stallions of his generation. He was California’s leading first-crop sire of 2007, and he repeated his reign as the state’s leading second-crop sire of 2008. Continuing his dominance, he also ranked as the leading third-crop sire among all stallions who stood in California during the 2009 breeding season. In 2012, he accumulated progeny earnings of more than $1 million for the fourth consecutive year.
DECARCHY boasts more than 110 winners and overall progeny earnings of more than $7 million, as well as lifetime average earnings per starter of more than $37,000. Among his 15 stakes horses are the Grade 3 winner Stoney Fleece, the Grade 1-placed multiple stakes winner Antares World and the dual stakes winner Sourdough Sam.
DECARCHY stands at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, California. His 2013 fee is $3,000, live foal guarantee.
