DEL MAR SHOW is a classy, durable millionaire and second-crop sire who has relocated to Rancho Temescal in California for the 2012 breeding season.
DEL MAR SHOW won his first start at 2 and his last start at 9, and became a multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire during the remarkable career he crafted between those points. After breaking his maiden at Belmont Park in his racing debut, he blossomed into a Grade 2-placed winner at 3 and found a permanent home among the elite turf performers of his era. Over the next two seasons, the Allen Paulson homebred won five graded stakes races at five different tracks, culminating with the 2002 Bernard Baruch Handicap (G2) at Saratoga Race Course, in which he defeated the subsequent Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) winner Volponi. He remained competitive as an older horse, with three additional stakes placings, including two in Grade 2 company.
DEL MAR SHOW concluded his career in 2006 with an overall record of 13 wins and nine placings from 47 starts and lifetime earnings of $1,032,400. In addition to recording at least one win during each of his eight seasons on the track, he was credited with 11 triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures before he embarked on his stallion career in 2007.
DEL MAR SHOW is the only graded stakes-winning son of Theatrical (Ire) standing in California. A six-time Grade 1 winner by the European champion and leading sire Nureyev, Theatrical was a top-class runner who went on to become a profound influence on the breed. The 1987 Breeders' Cup Turf Stakes (G1) winner and $2,940,036-earner secured an Eclipse Award as Champion Turf Male, and has sired four international champions of his own. He is represented by more than 80 lifetime stakes winners, including more than 20 Grade/Group 1 winners, and the cumulative earners of more than $75 million. Among Theatrical's sons at stud are the Grade 1-winning millionaires Royal Anthem, Geri and Shakespeare, as well as the multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Strut the Stage, the latter of whom ranked as one of the leading first-crop sires in Canada in 2010.
DEL MAR SHOW was produced by the Foolish Pleasure mare Prankstress, a three-time stakes winner at 2. Two of his winning siblings have become black-type producers: his half-sister Adel, a Churchill Downs stakes winner and runner-up in the 1998 Del Mar Oaks (G1), is the dam of the 2010 stakes winner Forestry Type; his full sister Nabla is the dam of the dual graded stakes winner Walkslikeaduck, who equaled the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club course record for 1 1/8 miles on turf when he won the 2000 Del Mar Derby (G2).
DEL MAR SHOW boasts more than 40 stakes horses under his first four dams. Among the prominent runners in his immediate pedigree is the 1976 Eclipse Champion Older Female Proud Delta, the granddam of Grade 1 winner Indy Five Hundred and the 2010 Group 1-winning juvenile Biondetti, and the tail-female ancestor of the 2011 Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (G1) and Alabama Stakes (G1) winner Royal Delta, the latter of whom sold for $8.5 million during the 2011 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Another member of this productive family is the successful regional sire Jeblar.
DEL MAR SHOW stands at Rancho Temescal in Piru, California as the property of Grant Truman. His 2012 fee is $1,500, live foal guarantee.
