Event of the Year won his only start at 2 by 5 1/2 lengths and the first three of his four starts at 3--an allowance race by 6 lengths followed by graded stakes by 3 1/2 and 5 lengths, a total winning margin of 20 lengths for those four victories. Event of the Year won the Grade 2 Strub Stakes at 4 and showed that he was a runner even in races that he didn't win, finishing second in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap--beaten by just a half-length--and the Grade 2 San Fernando Breeders' Cup Stakes. Event of the Year retired with earnings of $1,095,200 in nine starts, an average of $121,669 per start. In seven starts in graded stakes, he won three times, was second twice, third once, and fourth once. He never finished off the board.
