GOOD JOURNEY is beyond doubt one of the best-credentialed stallions ever to enter stud in California. A half-brother to 2003 Eclipse Champion Sprinter Aldebaran, he is a son of the leading sire Nureyev out of a Grade 1-winning European champion. He won the $1 million Atto Mile Stakes (G1) and three Grade 2 races and placed in the 2002 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) before he retired from competition at the age of 7 with total earnings of $1,733,058.
GOOD JOURNEY is by the champion racehorse and leading stallion Nureyev, the sire of 136 stakes winners. Nine runners by this influential sire were recognized as champions, including Theatrical (Ire), Miesque, Peintre Celebre, Sonic Lady, Soviet Star and Spinning World.
GOOD JOURNEY is one of four stakes winners out of European champion Chimes of Freedom, the dam of Eclipse Award winner Aldebaran ($1,739,186). His second dam is Irish champion Aviance (Ire). It’s a female family packed with outstanding international performers.
GOOD JOURNEY was a classy turf specialist who could run anywhere. He won or placed in graded stakes at Hollywood Park, Santa Anita Park, Woodbine, Churchill Downs, Arlington Park and Hawthorne Park. He placed twice in three starts at 3 in France, then shipped to North America, where he was never worse than third in 13 starts, including seven graded stakes. He recorded Equibase Speed Figures ranging from 110 to 121 in his final 11 starts, and came within a length of winning the prestigious Breeders’ Cup Mile.
GOOD JOURNEY initiated his stallion career in Australia during the 2003 Southern Hemisphere breeding season, and continues to shuttle between Cornerstone Stud in that country and California. His Australia-conceived crops have yielded 60 winners, including the 2012 Group 1-winning millionaire Happy Trails (Aus), the Group 1 winner Grand Journey (Aus) and the dual Group 2 winner Sound Journey (Aus).
GOOD JOURNEY stood his initial season in North America in 2007. His first California-conceived foals are 5-year-olds of 2013, and include the Grade 2-placed dual stakes winner Thirtyfirststreet. His second group of California-conceived foals is represented by 2012 California Cup Distaff Stakes winner Bella Viaggia.
GOOD JOURNEY boasts international progeny earnings of more than $8.1 million, and average earnings per starter of more than $41,000. His Average Earnings Index is outstanding, at 1.49.
GOOD JOURNEY stands at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, California. His 2013 fee is $4,000, live foal guarantee.
