ILLINOIS STORM is a dual stakes-placed winner by the fabulously successful sire Storm Cat, and his performance in the stud already has marked him as a worthy carrier of that great sire line.
ILLINOIS STORM boasts a pedigree that is rich in classic blood. It includes double crosses not only to the highly influential Bold Ruler, but also to the great mare Somethingroyal, the dam of both Secretariat and Sir Gaylord, as well as his primary male line, Northern Dancer to Storm Bird to Storm Cat.
ILLINOIS STORM jumped out of the gate quickly as a sire. His first crop included the California champion Calkins Road ($520,735), the Grade 3 winner Georgia's Storm and the stakes-placed winners Gyrene and Snoopy Cat. That initial crop's 11 foals all started and earned more than $1,100,000 as a group, with average earnings per runner of more than $108,000. His seven first-crop winners all won on California tracks. His two stakes winners from that crop won or placed in seven stakes races at Santa Anita Park and Hollywood Park.
ILLINOIS STORM has achieved total progeny earnings of more than $2.5 million to date, including five $100,000-plus earners. Among his nine stakes horses is the classy veteran Shadow of Illinois ($498,065), the winner of Santa Anita’s Grade 3 San Simeon Handicap in 2005 and still a multiple winner in competitive Southern California at the age of 9 in 2009!
