In the hoofprints of Damascus
In a career compromised by injury,
An impressive individual standing
Let his trainer, John Anderson, tell the story: "If
not for injuries, he certainly would have been better than an allowance
winner and stakes-placed. In his second start at 2, he won a maiden
special weight race at Golden Gate going 4 1/2 furlongs in :50.96 and winning
by 7 1/2 lengths, then in his next start was third in the Westchester Stakes
at Hollywood. After six months off for surgery, he came back to win his
first race by 3 1/2 at Golden Gate in 1:09.91. Then in his first start
around two turns he was beaten a head by Globalize in the Golden State
Mile on a sloppy track at Bay Meadows. He had knee surgery after that race
and the next year won an allowance race at Golden Gate in 1:08.66 and placed
in a stake at Pleasanton. He could have been a nice one."
