MATTY G provides Washington breeders an exceptional level of both racing performance and sire quality. As a racehorse, he was a Grade 1 winner; as a stallion, he is represented by six graded/group stakes winners. He has dominated the Washington stallion ranks since he was relocated to the state in late 2006, and has reigned as Washington's leading sire in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, with progeny earnings in excess of $1 million during each of those years.
MATTY G was bred to be a runner and a stallion. His sire is the 1986 Eclipse Champion 2-Year-Old Male Capote, the sire of more than 60 stakes winners. His dam is the stakes-placed, 17-time winner Star Gem, who produced not only Matty G but also three other graded stakes horses, including 1993 Arlington Million (G1) winner Star of Cozzene ($2,102,964), who won or placed in 20 stakes races, 17 of them graded.
MATTY G won the Grade 1 Hollywood Futurity on dirt at 2 and the Grade 3 Ascot Handicap on turf at 3. He also placed twice in stakes company on dirt at 3, including the Grade 2 San Rafael Stakes. He earned nearly his entire $443,275 career bankroll at the ages of 2 and 3. He is now siring the same kind of early developers; with his first Washington-conceived crop, he led all stallions in the state by 2-year-old progeny earnings in 2010.
MATTY G has sired more than 280 winners to date. His 33 stakes horses include the Grade 2 winner My Cousin Matt ($1,027,781), the Group 1 winner Krysia (Arg), the 2010 Washington Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Lady Golightly and the 2012 stakes winners Black 'n Silver and Giacomina. He is represented by cumulative progeny earnings of more than $14 million, and lifetime average earnings per starter of more than $37,000.
MATTY G is siring durability, as well as quality. His runners have averaged more than 19 starts each, and many of them are still racing and adding to that impressive figure.
