A Group Stakes Winner At 2
From One Of The World's
Hottest Sire Lines

Sire Of More Than 100 Winners,
Including 2009 G2 Performer
Devoted Magic

Muqtarib demonstrated his early speed and class in England by winning the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood as a 2-year-old. In breaking his maiden six weeks earlier at Goodwood, he defeated eventual Epsom Derby (G1) winner Oath (Ire). In the United States at 4, he was an allowance winner at Belmont Park.

Muqtarib is by Gone West, a Grade 1-winning son of the legendary Mr. Prospector. This influential stallion has yielded 98 stakes winners, 51 graded stakes winners and the collective earners of more than $78 million, including several successful sons who are now carrying on that prosperous line, such as Elusive Quality (progeny earnings of $41 million; sire of 47 stakes winners and 17 graded stakes winners, including 2004 Kentucky Derby-G1 winner Smarty Jones and 2008 Breeders' Cup Classic-G1 winner Raven's Pass), Mr. Greeley (progeny earnings of $44 million; sire of 44 stakes winners and 21 graded stakes winners), Grand Slam (progeny earnings of $45 million; sire of 48 stakes winners and 15 graded stakes winners) and Zafonic (sire of champion Xaar-GB). Gone West is also represented by the exciting young sires Speightstown (sire of four graded/group stakes winners in his first crop) and Proud Citizen (sire of Eclipse champion and 2008 Kentucky Oaks-G1 winner Proud Spell in his first crop).

Muqtarib has already established himself as an up-and-coming sire, with more than 100 winners and the cumulative earners of more than $2.3 million to his credit. In 2009, he is represented by Santa Anita Park’s Palos Verdes Handicap (G2) runner-up, Devoted Magic.

Muqtarib is out of a champion 2-year-old, and hails from the female family of champion sires Habitat and Northfields and 3-year-old champion Suave Dancer.
