Private Gold gelding scores third victory from last five starts
On July 26, He's All Heart added to his racing credentials when he became the fourth three-time winner for Washington's leading second-crop sire, Private Gold.
The 3-year-old gelding overcame an early speed duel to capture a $15,000 claiming race carded at one mile around the Emerald Downs oval, where he has made all nine of his career starts. The race marked his most valuable victory to date, and his third from his last five starts. His other two local wins came at the $7,500 claiming level: first on May 22, when he defeated 10 other maiden Washington-bred runners with a 4 1/4-length win margin at six furlongs, then on June 5, when he returned to the same distance for a two-length score in open company.
Partnered again with jockey Robert Burney, who had guided him to those prior two achievements, He's All Heart battled with fellow speedster Tucannon until the twosome neared the three-quarter marker, then took over and successfully held his main contender at bay until he reached the end of the race with a one-length advantage in 1:36. The gelding banked $5,995 for his gritty effort and pushed his overall earnings to $18,914.
He's All Heart was bred by Washington Thoroughbred Foundation, and produced by the Chequer mare Big Headache. He is trained by Larry Wolf for owner Vic-Tory Stables IV.

Private Gold enhances his status as Washington leader
The July 18 racing program at Emerald Downs proved to be a successful one for Private Gold, last year's leading freshman sire in Washington, when his 2-year-old son Movie Clip nabbed a stakes placing in only his second lifetime start and his 3-year-old daughter Primadonna Pearl rallied for her third victory while establishing herself as the stallion's top earner.
In the featured $31,275 Northwest Stallion Strong Ruler Stakes for juveniles, Movie Clip saved ground on the inside under jockey Jose Contreras, then finished willingly for third in the 5 1/2-furlong test, reaching the wire 6 1/2 lengths behind the runaway winner, Hollywood Harbor, but ahead of four other starters.
A runner-up in his local 4 1/2-furlong career debut on June 14, the Doris Harwood-trained gelding has now earned $7,431 from a pair of placings for his owner and breeder, Frank Gaunt. Movie Clip was produced by the winning On Target mare Paper Clip.
One race prior to the Strong Ruler, Primadonna Pearl banked $5,995 for winning a $15,000 claiming race by a neck in 1:11. Saddled by trainer Vann Belvoir and ridden by Jose Zunino, she rocketed from seventh to first in the six-furlong event, defeating seven rival sophomore fillies at odds of 10-1.
Like Movie Clip, Primadonna Pearl was bred in Washington and also earned the distinction of being stakes-placed at 2. From 15 starts, she totes a record of three wins and seven placings and earnings of $31,840. She is campaigned by Howard Maggard.
Primadonna Pearl is the second foal out of the winning Slewdledo mare Primadonna Poppy, and was bred by Carleen Phyllis Belton and Dan Belton.
Each of the youngsters hails from one of the initial two crops by Private Gold, a two-time stakes winner who currently stands at El Dorado Farms in Enumclaw. The 9-year-old Seeking the Gold stallion is represented by nine winners and four stakes horses from his first 23 starters. - July 18, 2009
Private Gold juvenile filly nabs stakes placing in second start
Making just her second lifetime start, the Private Gold filly Miss Cygogne stepped up to stakes company and came away with a placing in Emerald Downs' $31,500 Northwest Stallion Knights Choice Stakes for 2-year-old fillies on July 12.
A member of her sire's second crop, Miss Cygogne made a splashy career debut at the Washington racetrack just 10 days earlier, when she dominated a 10-horse field of maidens which included eight colts and geldings. After she aced that 4 1/2-furlong test by 10 1/2 widening lengths for owner Jeff Harwood and his wife and trainer, Doris Harwood, the filly was haltered for a $7,500 tag by new owners Al Adams, David Israel and Gary Borman and trainer Bill Thompson.
Paired with rider Seth Martinez and installed as the 13-1 sixth wagering option among the eight betting interests assembled for the Knights Choice, Miss Cygogne eagerly chased the early leader, the heavily favored Knight Raider, while running in third between two other rivals, but quickly found herself outmaneuvered by the speedy front-runner, who kept improving her advantage over the field with every stride and ultimately reached the conclusion of the 5 1/2-furlong race as an overpowering, 13-length winner. Martinez and his mount were able to hold on for third in a blanket finish, reaching the wire a half-length behind the runner-up.
Miss Cygogne collected $4,725 to bring her two-race bankroll to $8,383. She was bred in Washington by Nina and Ron Hagen, and produced by the Basket Weave mare Cygogne.
The Hagens' El Dorado Farms in Enumclaw serves as the Washington home of the Grade 3-placed, dual stakes winner Private Gold. Private Gold filly dominates Emerald Downs juvenile race
Miss Cygogne, a second-crop daughter of the Washington stallion Private Gold, broke her maiden in a big way on July 2, when she romped to a double-digit victory at Emerald Downs in her career debut.
Sent postward at odds of 4-1 as one of only two fillies in the 10-horse field of 2-year-olds, Miss Cygogne was hustled along by jockey Gallyn Mitchell after she emerged from the starting gate, and the duo quickly got the better of an early speed duel to take the lead in the 4 1/2-furlong race. She set fractions of :22.20 for the opening quarter-mile and :46 for the first half-mile, increasing her advantage with every stride until she reached the wire 10 1/2 lengths ahead of her closest rival in a final clocking of :52.40.
The first-time starter earned a $3,658 winner's check for the husband/wife team of owner Jeff Harwood and trainer Doris Harwood, but the couple lost the filly through a $7,500 claim by new trainer Bill Thompson and the ownership group of Al Adams, Gary Boreman and David Israel.
Miss Cygogne is the third foal out of the dual-placed Basket Weave mare Cygogne, a half-sister to six stakes horses. She was bred in Washington by Nina and Ron Hagen.

Private Gold scores two more winners at Emerald Downs
The return of racing at Emerald Downs nearly two months ago has provided a boon to the young Washington stallion Private Gold, who added to his local 2009 tally when he scored winners on back-to-back programs on June 5 and June 6.
On the track's Friday evening card, his 3-year-old son He's All Heart captured his second consecutive start at the $7,500 claiming level, scoring a two-length victory at six furlongs in a final time of 1:10.20. The Washington-bred gelding, whose 11-1 odds proved to be a gift to astute handicappers, has been ridden by Robert Burney in four of his six lifetime starts, which have all been made at Emerald Downs for trainer Larry Wolf and owner Vic-Tory Stables IV.
Bred by Washington Thoroughbred Foundation, He's All Heart was produced by the Chequer mare Big Headache. The two-time winner, a member of his sire's initial crop of runners, has banked $9,922 overall.
The following day, Washington's leading freshman sire of 2008 achieved another landmark when his state-bred son Private Jettz, the debut runner from his second crop, won at first asking at the Auburn oval.
Facing a field of five rival 2-year-olds, the John and Janene Maryanski homebred led at every call of the 4 1/2-furlong test, which was carded as a $12,500 claiming race for non-winners. Under jockey Juan Gutierrez, he hit the wire in :52.60 with a clear 3 3/4-length advantage, returning $3.40, $2.60 and $2.20 as the 7-10 favorite.
Private Jettz is out of the winning Free At Last mare Freedom in Flight, and is a full brother to the 2008 juvenile winner Isabellas Premiere. Conditioned by trainer Blaine Wright, he earned $4,675 for his successful introductory race.

Coco'sprivatelabel, by Private Gold, makes it two in a row
Less than three weeks after he captured a 5 1/2-furlong claiming race at Emerald Downs, the first-crop Private Gold gelding Coco'sprivatelabel got his picture taken again at the Auburn, Washington track when he romped home in his six-furlong follow-up test on June 4.
The 3-year-old gelding repeated the front-running tactics that served him well in his previous start on May 17. Sent postward as the odd-on favorite in his second consecutive attempt at the $15,000 claiming level, Coco'sprivatelabel broke on top and immediately opened up a clear lead against his six overmatched rivals. After setting fractions of :22.60, :45.20 and :57.20 - times which were nearly identical to those of his previous outing, he galloped to the wire under a hand ride by jockey Juan Gutierrez for an easy, three-length win margin.
Coco'sprivatelabel stopped the clock in 1:10 and collected a $5,775 check to push his overall earnings to $19,740. The Doris Harwood pupil has now won three of five starts, with two seconds, for owners Just A Dream Stable and Ron and Nina Hagen.
Bred in Washington by Julie Ann Scofield and Just A Dream Stable, he is out of the winning mare Tea With Coco, by Free At Last.

Washington's Private Gold notches another first-crop winner
On May 22, 3-year-old He's All Heart became the seventh winner from the initial crop of runners sired by the young Washington stallion Private Gold when he captured a six-furlong maiden claiming test over 10 rivals at Emerald Downs.
Making only his fifth career start, the Larry Wolf-trained gelding quickly engaged in the competition by breaking alertly from the gate and pressing the early pace along the rail. Asked to move up by jockey Robert Burney with three-sixteenths of a mile remaining in the race, He's All Heart responded with fervor and willingly took over the lead. Although his inexperience showed when he drifted out in the stretch, he kept increasing his advantage until he reached the wire 4 1/4 lengths clear of his nearest threat.
The final time for the $7,500 claiming contest for sophomore Washington-breds was 1:11.20. He's All Heart improved his overall bankroll to $6,017 with his first winner's check.
Bred by Washington Thoroughbred Foundation and campaigned by Vic-Tory Stables IV, he is the second winner out of the stakes-producing Chequer mare Big Headache.

First-crop Private Gold gelding dominates Emerald Downs sprint
Coco'sprivatelabel, a 3-year-old gelding from the first crop of last year's leading freshman sire in Washington, Private Gold, scored a 1 3/4-length, gate-to-wire victory in a $15,000 claiming race at Emerald Downs on May 17.
Despite being bumped at the start, the Doris Harwood trainee shook off the setback and went to the lead of the seven-horse race, carving out fractions of :22, :45.20 and :57.20 and ultimately posting a final time of 1:03.40 for his 5 1/2-furlong trip under Juan Gutierrez. In his 2009 debut on April 24, Coco'sprivatelabel had finished second in a $12,500 claiming race at the same racetrack and distance, marking his first on-track effort since his local maiden victory last August.
Bred in Washington by Julie Ann Scofield and Just A Dream Stable and owned by the latter in partnership with Ron and Nina Hagen, Coco'sprivatelabel has earned $13,965 from two wins and two seconds in four career starts.
He is the second foal out of the winning Free At Last mare Tea With Coco, a half-sister to the stakes winner Secret Assembly and the stakes-placed winner General Concorde.

First-crop Private Gold fillies find Emerald Downs winner's circle
A pair of state-bred fillies from the inaugural crop of the Washington stallion Private Gold made their way to the Emerald Downs winner's circle on back-to-back days in early May. The 3-year-old runners - stakes-placed Primadonna Pearl and repeat winner Private Lesson - each captured a 5 1/2-furlong claiming event at the Auburn oval.
On May 1, the Len Kasmerski-trained Primadonna Pearl, a 10-time starter who ran third in Portland Meadows' $19,550 Lassie Stakes last November, made the second race of her sophomore campaign a winning one when she moved from last to first in a $7,500 claiming contest. Carrying low weight of 115 pounds with apprentice jockey Cassie Papineau aboard, she won by a head in 1:04.40 and brought her overall earnings to $19,173 for owner Steven Many.
Primadonna Pearl was bred in Washington by Carleen Phyllis Belton and Dan Belton, and produced by the winning Slewdledo mare Primadonna Poppy. The two-time winner was claimed out of the race by trainer Vann Belvoir on behalf of new owner Howard Maggard.
The following afternoon, Private Lesson became the first repeat winner of Emerald Downs' 2009 meet when she outkicked seven foes, including six of her elders, in a $25,000 claiming race. Making her first start on a wet-fast track, the Doris Harwood trainee moved steadily from fifth to first under jockey Saul Arias for a half-length advantage in 1:03.80.
She collected $8,305 for her third lifetime win and pushed her seven-race bankroll to $18,843. Private Lesson was bred by her owner, Jeff Harwood, and produced by the winning Basket Weave mare Faithfully.

Washington leader Private Gold achieves another repeat winner
Private Lesson, a daughter of Washington's 2008 leading freshman sire, Private Gold, distinguished herself as the second repeat winner from her sire's debut crop when she returned from an eight-month break to upset a 5 1/2-furlong sprint race on the second day of Emerald Downs' 2009 meet.
The 3-year-old filly, who races as a homebred for Jeff Harwood, outfinished six rivals in the April 18 dash, which was conducted as a $12,500 claiming event. Sent postward as a 12-1 longshot, Private Lesson belied those odds when she stalked the early pacesetter, engaged that favored 2-1 leader a furlong from the wire and ultimately drew clear for a 1 3/4-length victory in 1:03.60.
She was ridden by regular companion Juan Gutierrez, who has guided her in five of her six lifetime starts. Private Lesson has raced exclusively at the Auburn, Washington oval, but had not seen competition since her dull, sixth-place finish in the track's 6 1/2-furlong Knights Choice Stakes for juvenile fillies last August.
Trained by Doris Harwood, Private Lesson has now won two races and earned $10,538. A Washington-bred, she was produced by the winning Basket Weave mare Faithfully.

Showcase stallions top 2008 Western Region leading sire lists!
Congratulations to the connections of 10 Thoroughbred Info Showcase stallions, who emerged from 2008 as leading sires in several notable categories, both in the Western Region and nationally.
Leading the pack with remarkable year-end progeny earnings of $5,827,513, according to statistics compiled by "The Blood-Horse", was Old English Rancho's Unusual Heat. The Nureyev stallion captured the crown as California's leading sire of 2008 by overall progeny earnings, turf earnings ($2,893,629) and all-weather surface earnings ($2,511,242). He also gained national attention as North America's highest-ranked active stallion by turf earnings, second only to the deceased leader Chester House.
One of Unusual Heat's California counterparts, the Magali Farms resident Decarchy, solidified his standing as the state's leading freshman sire of 2007 by compiling 2008 progeny earnings of $876,349 - enough to take another divisional title as California's leading second-crop sire.
Harris Farms stallion Swiss Yodeler, California's leading sire by overall progeny earnings in 2006, ranked highest among all of the state's sires by 2-year-old progeny earnings in 2008, with $486,379 banked by his juveniles last year.
In Washington, El Dorado Farms mainstay Matty G ruled supreme as the state's leading overall sire for the third consecutive year, with total progeny earnings of $1,819,949 during 2008. The Capote stallion also topped his local brethren by all-weather surface earnings, with $297,123.
Another El Dorado stallion, Private Gold, served notice as Washington's leading freshman sire of 2008. With six winners from 14 starters, the dual stakes-winning son of Seeking the Gold was represented by first-crop progeny earnings of $71,688.
Meanwhile, Woodstead Farm garnered a leading regional sire in the form of He's Tops, whose year-end juvenile earnings of $123,483 were enough to rank him first among all Washington stallions in this category.
Bar C Racing Stables in Hermiston, Oregon, is home to two of that state's 2008 leaders. Freshman standout Harbor the Gold, a winning son of Seeking the Gold who attained an astounding three stakes winners from his initial eight starters, compiled first-year progeny earnings of $110,181 as the clear winner in that division.
Meanwhile, fellow Bar C resident Soft Gold (Brz) led all Oregon stallions by all-weather progeny earnings, with $153,426.
In Arizona, the sons and daughters of Golden Gear installed their sire as the state's leader by overall progeny earnings, with $632,649. Fleming Thoroughbred Farm's Gulch stallion was also the state's top turf sire, with $92,456 banked by his runners on the grass during 2008.
Category Five, a resident of Mesa Farms in North Dakota, was the overwhelming leader in his home state for 2008. The Storm Cat stallion was best by overall progeny earnings ($244,577), as well as turf earnings, all-weather surface earnings and 2-year-old progeny earnings.

Private Gold fillies earn stakes placings at Portland Meadows
A pair of Washington-bred fillies from the debut crop of Private Gold picked up placings in the $19,550 Lassie Stakes at Portland Meadows on November 16, enhancing their sire's status as the Evergreen State's leading freshman sire of 2008.
Two-time winner Italian Gold and maiden winner Primadonna Pearl got up for second and third, respectively, in the six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies, which attracted seven entrants.
Italian Gold, trained by Delmer Webb for Nordic Stable and ridden by Deborah Hoonan-Trujillo, finished three-quarters of a length behind the front-running winner, Catalina Harbor, as the 7-10 wagering favorite. Produced by the winning Staff Riot mare Special Spirit and bred by Nina Hagen and Holly Sturgeon, she has won or placed in six of seven lifetime starts, and earned $21,020.
The John Maloney-trained Primadonna Pearl ended the race just a nose behind Italian Gold, earning $2,933 for the show to bring her eight-race bankroll to $15,031. She was ridden by David Lopez for owner Steven Many. Primadonna Pearl is out of the winning Slewdledo mare Primadonna Poppy, and was bred by Carleen Phyllis Belton and Dan Belton.

Private Gold secures top spot among Washington freshman sires
Italian Gold became the first repeat winner for Washington-based freshman sire Private Gold when she captured a 5 1/2-furlong race for juvenile fillies at Portland Meadows on November 4.
Skipping over the wet-fast track with aplomb, the 4-5 wagering favorite rewarded her backers with a come-from-behind, one-length score over six rivals. The youngster, whose five previous starts had all been made at Emerald Downs in her home state, boosted her career bankroll to $17,110 for owner Nordic Stable. She is trained by Delmer Webb, and was ridden to victory in the $12,500 claiming event by Deborah Hoonan-Trujillo.
Italian Gold was bred by Nina Hagen and Holly Sturgeon, and was produced by the winning Staff Riot mare Special Spirit. She has been off the board only once, finishing fourth in Emerald Downs' restricted, $45,000 Northwest Stallion Knights Choice Stakes last August in her second start.
