Sire Of 2009 Undefeated 2YO Seeking The Queen
SOUGHT AFTER was California's third-leading freshman sire of 2006, trailing only Tribal Rule and Skimming. His Sire Production Index of 1.60 was second-best among the state's freshman sires.
SOUGHT AFTER boasts sparkling credentials for a young sire prospect, and combines leading representatives of the Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer lines in the two halves of his pedigree. His dam is a half-sister to 2007 Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour, the dam of 2006 Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Jazil ($890,532), 2007 Champion 3-Year-Old Filly and Belmont winner Rags to Riches ($1,342,528), 2008 Peter Pan Stakes (G2) winner Casino Drive ($838,539) and 2009 Breeders’ Cup Marathon winner Man of Iron ($330,478).
SOUGHT AFTER is a promising son of Seeking the Gold, a Grade 1 winner of more than $2.3 million and a leading sire who is represented by more than 90 stakes winners from his brilliant stud career, from which he was pensioned in 2008. Seeking the Gold has sired the collective earners of more than $88 million and five champions, including Dubai Millennium, Heavenly Prize and Flanders.
SOUGHT AFTER is out of a multiple Group-winning daughter of two-time leading broodmare sire Danzig. His second dam is multiple Grade 1 winner Blush With Pride ($536,807), producer of five stakes horses. From his first three dams have descended an amazing 103 stakes horses, including 11 champions.
SOUGHT AFTER's first foals raced in 2006, and boosted him to the top echelon of California freshman sires that year. In 2008, he was represented by a pair of stakes horses in Southern California. He was also represented by a record-breaker in Northern California, when his first-time starter Cross Fire made a smashing debut by setting a new track record while winning a maiden special weight race by three lengths at Golden Gate Fields. The 2-year-old gelding ran 4 1/2 furlongs in :51.32, breaking the previous record of :51.70.
SOUGHT AFTER has cumulative progeny earnings of more than $640,000, and average earnings per starter of more than $24,000 — that's better than nine times his stud fee! From his first 26 starters, 17 are winners (65%), including eight multiple winners. In 2009, his speedy filly Seeking the Queen crafted an undefeated 2-year-old season with three consecutive victories at Golden Gate Fields.
