First-Crop Foals Arrive In 2012!

SUNDARBAN entered stud in 2011 as an exciting option for discerning mare owners who value impeccable conformation, proven pedigree patterns and solid racing credentials in a stallion prospect.

SUNDARBAN is a son of the breed-shaping sire A.P. Indy, the 1992 Eclipse Horse of the Year. As the most successful son of 1977 Triple Crown winner and Horse of the Year Seattle Slew, A.P. Indy has sired more than 210 stakes horses, including 11 international champions and more than 80 graded stakes winners, and the collective earners of more than $114 million. A two-time leading sire in North America, A.P. Indy has earned a reputation as an influential sire of sires through his 2003 Horse of the Year Mineshaft and his 2006 Eclipse Champion 3-Year-Old Colt Bernardini, as well as his successful sons Malibu Moon and Pulpit, the latter of whom is represented by Tapit, one of the leading North American sires of 2011.

SUNDARBAN also carries a blueblood pedigree through his distaff side. He is the first foal out of Desert Tigress, a winning daughter of the leading sire Storm Cat and full sister to Hurricane Cat, a Group 3 winner and promising young sire whose early runners already include several group performers. His second, third and fourth dams were all graded stakes winners and graded stakes producers. His second dam is the nine-time Grade 1 winner Sky Beauty, the 1994 Eclipse Champion Older Female and 2011 National Racing Hall of Fame inductee. His third dam is the multiple Grade 1 winner Maplejinsky, and his fourth dam is the 1982 Eclipse Champion Sprinter Gold Beauty. In addition to producing several sires, such as the multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Tale of Ekati, 1990 England Horse of the Year Dayjur, Grade 2 winner The Prime Minister and Gold Legend, this powerful family has generated the 2005 Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) winner Pleasant Home and multiple Grade 1 winner Pine Island, among other notable runners.

SUNDARBAN represents the same potent A.P. Indy-Storm Cat cross which yielded the leading regional sire Jump Start, a Grade 2 winner who boasts the collective earners of more than $19 million to date, including the 2009 Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap (G1) winner Rail Trip and the 2011 multiple graded stakes winners Pants On Fire and Prayer for Relief.

SUNDARBAN is a handsome and correct individual who sold for $1.7 million during the elite second session of the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Carrying the colors of Lady Serena Rothschild, he won four races at three different tracks, all at distances of one mile or more. After his breakout, 8 3/4-length victory in a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight race at Indiana Downs, he went on to win three of his next five starts, including back-to-back victories at Hoosier Park and a five-length win at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort — all at one mile in allowance company. He retired with four wins and five placings from 16 starts, and career earnings of $103,340.

SUNDARBAN stands at Milky Way Farm in Temecula, California. His first foals will arrive in 2012.
