Canada-based Ten Most Wanted sophomore rallies again
Florida-bred Ten Years After continues to thrive in his far northern environs. On September 27, the 3-year-old runner from the initial crop of Ten Most Wanted picked up his second victory - and sixth on-the-board finish - at Hastings Race Course in Vancouver, British Columbia.
A 13-time starter for owner Ross McLeod, who purchased the gelding as an early yearling for $8,500 at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Winter Mixed Sale in January 2007, Ten Years After has raced exclusively in Canada and Northern California, and has more than doubled his original purchase price by banking $20,406 to date.
Saddled by trainer John Snow for his latest outing, a 1 1/16-mile dirt test in which he was eligible to be claimed for $6,500, Ten Years After was kept in fourth behind the early pace by jockey Fernando Perez, moved three-wide to make a late run and passed his final rival in the six-horse field with a half-length to spare, reaching the wire in 1:47.78. He returned $9.90, $4.40 and $3.40 to his backers.
Ten Years After was bred by Gem Racing Inc., and produced by Peaks and Valleys' unraced daughter Shar's Smile.
His sire is Grade 1 winner Ten Most Wanted, a resident of Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, California. The 9-year-old Deputy Commander stallion has progeny earnings of more than $950,000 from two crops of racing age. - September 27, 2009
Ten Most Wanted filly chalks up her fifth stakes placing
Karakorum Fugitive, the leading earner for the California-based stallion Ten Most Wanted, continued to carve a successful career for herself with her fifth placing in a stakes race restricted to New York-bred females. She accomplished the feat when she ran an even third in Belmont Park's $67,500 Belle Born Stakes on September 24. [WATCH RACE VIDEO]
Unraced at 2, the consistent Karakorum Fugitive has made all 12 of her career starts within the confines of her home state this year, and has compiled three wins and eight placings for overall earnings of $142,190 - enough to establish herself as the top money-winner for her sire. Her black-type placings have come on a variety of surfaces: fast dirt, firm turf and sloppy going at Belmont Park, as well as fast and sloppy conditions on the main track at Saratoga Race Course.
Facing five older runners in the 1 1/16-mile Belle Born, 3-year-old Karakorum Fugitive and jockey Eibar Coa broke from the inside stall and maintained a steady running position in fourth while saving ground next to the rail for the first six furlongs of the race, which was conducted on a fast dirt strip. The duo moved out in the final turn to pass the tiring front-runner, but they were ultimately no match for the top two finishers. Karakorum Fugitive reached the wire 8 3/4 lengths behind the winning favorite, Weathered, and 4 1/4 lengths ahead of the fourth-place filly, collecting $6,750 for trainer James Jerkens and owner Karakorum Farm.
A half-sister to dual New York stakes winner Mr. Windjammer, Karakorum Fugitive was bred by Stonebridge Farm and produced by Colonial Affair's unraced daughter Royal Relic.

Ten Most Wanted filly now a multiple winner in Canada
California's leading second-crop sire, Ten Most Wanted, achieved another multiple winner on September 5, when his Canada-based daughter Onlytenisee moved from last to first in a 7 1/2-furlong claiming race at Assiniboia Downs.
The 3-year-old filly has competed exclusively at the Winnipeg oval, where she has now compiled two wins and three placings from 14 trips postward. In her most recent outing, she was paired with rider Mark Anderson for a $5,000 claiming contest, and emerged victorious by a 1 1/2-length margin after employing a strong stretch run. She defeated five rivals in 1:37.40 at odds of 5-1, bringing her overall earnings to $9,863 for owners Byfuglien and Gray.
Onlytenisee was bred in Kentucky by Coal Creek Farm and produced by the Sky Classic mare Sky Nine. She hails from the barn of trainer Clayton Gray, who saddled her to a 1 1/4-length maiden victory in a local one-mile race on July 15.
Grade 1 winner Ten Most Wanted relocated from New York to Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, California prior to the 2009 breeding season. The 9-year-old Deputy Commander stallion has 33 winners and total progeny earnings of more than $910,000 from two crops to race. - September 5, 2009
Ten Most Wanted represented by his 29th first-crop winner
On August 27, the California stallion Ten Most Wanted achieved the 29th winner from his inaugural 2006 crop of foals when his daughter Lucky Appeal moved resolutely from last to first in a 1 1/16-mile maiden claiming race in West Virginia.
Sent postward as the 2-1 wagering favorite in a field of nine distaffers, Lucky Appeal carried the lowest impost, at 116 pounds, as one of only three 3-year-old fillies in the $10,000 claiming test at Charles Town Races & Slots. She broke last of all from the gate and was kept in that rear position by jockey Wesley Ho through the first quarter-mile, which was run in a leisurely :24.77 by the pacesetter. Ho steadily advanced his mount in the backstretch, then asked her for her best as the duo entered the final turn.
Lucky Appeal responded with vigor, driving forward and overcoming a late duel to record her first career victory by a neck in 1:51.87. She collected $9,600 for the effort, pushing her 12-race bankroll to $21,605. She accumulated five placings, all at Charles Town, in the lead-up to her maiden score.
Bred in Kentucky by JMJ Racing, Lucky Appeal is the first foal out of the winning Quest for Fame (GB) mare Tiff's Bonzai. She is trained by Lewis Craig Jr. for owner Jennie Catinella.

Ten Most Wanted runners victorious in Ohio and Maryland
The 2-year-old colt Jen's Tin Man and the 3-year-old filly Nasty Widow added to the win column of Ten Most Wanted, California's current leading second-crop sire, when they each scored 5 1/2-furlong victories in mid-August.
In a River Downs maiden special weight contest that attracted seven runners on August 14, Jen's Tin Man broke quickly from the inside post position and set fractions of :23.40, :46.80 and 1:01.20 en route to a four-length upset at odds of 15-1. Trained by William Napier and ridden by Pablo Tolentino, the Kentucky-bred colt stopped the clock in 1:07.80 for his first win from four starts. He has earned $4,030 for his owner, Sherry Napier.
Jen's Tin Man was bred by Scott Ricker, Richard Kaster and Nancy Kaster, and is the third foal out of Romantic Trick, by Phone Trick.
Two days later, Nasty Widow had her picture taken in the Laurel Park winner's circle after she produced the perfect stalking trip under jockey Dusty Shepherd and captured her second victory from seven career starts. The John Robb trainee mastered the distance in 1:05.31, recording a 4 1/4-length win margin while running for a $7,500 claiming price. She has now earned $29,430 for owner Janet Wayson.
Nasty Widow is out of Widow Women, a daughter of Synastry, and was bred by Robert Losey, William Ezzell and Paul McGinty in Kentucky.

Two Ten Most Wanted youngsters love it in Louisiana
On August 13, a pair of runners by the emerging California stallion Ten Most Wanted - a gelding from his first crop and a filly from his second crop - won six-furlong races at two different tracks in Louisiana, a state which their sire conquered as the winner of its $500,000 Super Derby (G2) in 2003.
Capturing his second race at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas was 3-year-old Most Wanted Man, an 11-time starter who overthrew a 10-horse field at odds of 12-1. The John Gelner trainee, who broke his maiden at the facility on May 6, drove from sixth to first in the $5,000 claiming contest, and recorded a two-length margin of victory in a final time of 1:13.20.
Ridden by Hector Santiago for owner William Gilmore, Most Wanted Man improved his lifetime earnings to $24,950.
Nearly 200 miles away at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, 2-year-old Miss South Beach relished a drop in company and rewarded her connections with a 1 1/2-length score against nine rival juvenile fillies under jockey Anna Roberts. A lackluster sixth in her career debut in a local $29,000 maiden special weight race on June 19, she contested the early pace and overcame a late duel while running for trainer Jorge Lara and a $15,000 claiming price in her second outing, which ended with a winning time of 1:14.40.
Miss South Beach is campaigned by BP Production Corporation, and has banked $9,600.
Each of the same-day winners was bred in Louisiana. Most Wanted Man, a son of the stakes-producing Theatrical (Ire) mare Mini Series, was bred by Daniel Chicola. Miss South Beach was produced by Dare and Go's winning daughter Miss December Rose, and bred by Charles McTire.
Magali Farms in Santa Ynez is the Golden State home of 9-year-old Ten Most Wanted, a Grade 1 winner and $1.7 million-earner by Deputy Commander. He has progeny receipts of more than $810,000 from two crops to race. - August 13, 2009
Ten Most Wanted filly achieves third New York stakes placing
After making her mark twice in stakes company at Belmont Park, the first-crop Ten Most Wanted filly Karakorum Fugitive shipped to upstate New York and completed a unique trifecta on August 3: a third-place finish in each of her stakes attempts to date. [WATCH RACE VIDEO]
All three of those efforts were at seven furlongs against her fellow New York-breds, but each was conducted on a different type of racing surface. In the $109,000 Bouwerie Stakes on May 3, Belmont's main track came up sloppy; in the $67,950 Lottsa Talc Stakes on July 11, she made her turf debut. In her next outing, she made a strong late move on the hallowed dirt at Saratoga Race Course to finish on the board in the $73,000 Fleet Indian Stakes, a race named after the 2006 Eclipse Champion Older Female.
Saddled by James Jerkens and ridden by Jose Lezcano, Karakorum Fugitive was kept near back of the eight-horse Fleet Indian field for most of the journey, but kicked into gear in the lane and rallied five-wide to overtake all but the top two finishers. She reached the wire 2 1/4 lengths behind the victorious Dance Gal Dance and another length behind the favored runner-up Doremifasollatido, a Grade 2 winner who was the only other 3-year-old in the race.
The Karakorum Farm colorbearer was bred by Stonebridge Farm and produced by Colonial Affair's unraced daughter Royal Relic. She is the top earner for her sire, based on her admirable record of three wins and six placings from her nine career starts, which have yielded $120,296.

Ten Most Wanted runners score in Colorado and New Jersey
Monmouth Park in New Jersey and Arapahoe Park in Colorado may be more than 1,700 miles apart, but during the closing days of July, the distant venues provided identical results for a pair of first-crop geldings by Ten Most Wanted: each was the site of a 3 1/2-length victory in a one-mile dirt race.
On July 29, 3-year-old Thunderstruck broke his maiden as the 2-1 second wagering choice while running for a $30,000 claiming price in a seven-horse Monmouth field that included two of his elders. After being bumped at the start, which caused him to stumble and then fall back to sixth for the first half-mile, the Timothy Hills trainee gathered himself under jockey Joe Bravo and lodged a powerful outside bid in the final turn. The momentum was enough to carry the New Jersey-bred to the wire in 1:40.72, marking his first career win from 11 attempts.
Bred and owned by Tee-N-Jay Farm, Thunderstruck is out of the stakes-producing Silver Ghost mare Ms. Misery. He has also attained three placings, and has earned $40,845 overall while racing exclusively in his home state.
Two days after his cropmate's success, 3-year-old Kick Rocks made his second consecutive appearance at Arapahoe a winning one when he captured a $5,000 claiming event as the youngest runner in a field of 10. Ridden by Russell Vicchrilli for owner and trainer Paula Rodgers, the Kentucky-bred validated his status as the even-money favorite when he translated an early stalking position into an easy win in 1:39.51.
Kick Rocks broke his maiden in May and subsequently placed in a minor stakes race, both at a mile, at the Lincoln State Fair in Nebraska. He has also competed in New Mexico and Iowa, and has compiled a record of two wins and two placings from 10 starts, with earnings of $13,355. His dam is the winning Coronado's Quest mare So Much Splendor, and his breeder is R.S. Brown.

Ten Most Wanted hits pay dirt with dominant 2YO winner
He may have been named after a silly children's poem, but 2-year-old Fuzzywuzzywuzabear was all business when the starting gate opened for his career debut on July 23. The second-crop son of California stallion Ten Most Wanted demolished the field of nine other non-winners who had the misfortune of drawing into the same race as him: a $28,400 maiden special weight test conducted for West Virginia-bred juveniles at Charles Town Races & Slots.
The second foal out of the dual stakes-winning mare Just Bill Me, by Master Bill, took immediate control of the 4 1/2-furlong race. Saddled by trainer Lee Couchenour, he broke eagerly under jockey Jesus Sanchez and rushed up to gain a three-length advantage at the quarter-mile mark, which he reached in :22.30. After passing the half-mile point in :46.52, he increased his lead in the final yards and made his first racing experience a winning one in a final time of :53.21.
Fuzzywuzzywuzabear collected $16,800 for his 5 1/4-length romp, and returned $10, $7.40 and $3.60 to those handicappers who backed him at odds of 4-1. The gelding is campaigned by his breeders, Mr. and Mrs. Michael W. Baer Sr., in the name of Baer's Racing Stable.

Ten Most Wanted spreads his influence in U.S. and Europe
Within the span of just five days, three Kentucky-bred members of the first crop of California's current leading second-crop sire, Ten Most Wanted, exhibited their talents with repeat victories at Suffolk Downs in Massachusetts and across the Atlantic Ocean, at Ayr Racecourse in Scotland and Lingfield Park in England. Each of the wins came on a different racing surface: dirt, turf and all-weather.
On July 18, New Day Rising became a three-time winner when she rallied to defeat her elders in a $5,000 claiming race contested at one mile and 70 yards on the dirt at Suffolk, positioning herself as a three-length winner in 1:46.99. Bred by The Answer LLC and produced by the unraced Cape Town mare Bowl of Cherrie's, the 3-year-old filly has compiled $17,020 in earnings from 14 starts. She was ridden to her latest win by Tammi Piermarini, on behalf of owner Norman Walsh and trainer Kevin Clark.
Two of New Day Rising's 2006 cropmates, Minturno and Parc des Princes, also became repeat winners when they captured a pair of 3-year-old handicap races overseas. On July 20, Minturno won a six-furlong turf dash at Ayr by three-quarters of a length in 1:13.17 after stalking the pace; two days later, Parc des Princes closed resolutely on the all-weather racing surface at Lingfield to post a final time of 2:32.47 for his 3 1/2-length victory at a hearty 1 1/2 miles. Minturno is owned by Trevor Wilson, and Parc des Princes is campaigned by The James Gang.
Minturno was bred by Robert Francis, and is the eighth foal out of the winning Perrault (GB) mare Panama Jane. Parc des Princes was bred by Castletown Stud, and is the third foal out of the winning Unfuwain mare Miss Orah (GB). Ironically, each of the colts was sold twice at auction, and each now totes a career record of two wins and three placings from 10 trips to post.

Ten Most Wanted moves up with two more maiden winners
Second-crop sire Ten Most Wanted, a Grade 1-winning millionaire who recently completed his first California breeding season, added two more winners to his portfolio in mid-July, when a pair of youngsters from his initial foal crop broke their respective maidens while facing their elders in Canada and West Virginia.
On July 15, his daughter Onlytenisee overcame the wet-fast conditions at Assiniboia Downs and captured a one-mile test by 1 1/4 lengths. Ridden by jockey Alyssa Harder, the Clayton Gray trainee stalked along the rail in the early portion of the $5,000 maiden claiming race, took control in mid-stretch and drew off late to record her first victory in 1:43 at odds of 6-1.
The 3-year-old filly has made all 10 of her starts at the central Canada track, where she has also achieved two placings for her owners, Byfuglien and Gray. An earner of $5,595 to date, she was bred in Kentucky by Coal Creek Farm and produced by the Sky Classic mare Sky Nine.
Less than 24 hours later, Onlytenisee's cropmate Deputy Wanted outran seven contenders in a similarly priced maiden claiming event at Charles Town Races & Slots. The sophomore gelding, who has competed at four different racetracks on the East Coast since he made his career debut on March 27, finally put it all together at the West Virginia oval for a fast-closing victory at 1 1/16 miles. Sent off at 4-1, the Kentucky-bred broke slowly and was subsequently caught five-wide around the first turn, but jockey Josean Ramirez then wisely angled him to the rail to save ground while running seventh. The tactics worked: Deputy Wanted rallied in the final stages and prevailed by a neck after a prolonged stretch battle with the 3-5 favorite.
With his winning time of 1:51.58 for owner Paul Fowler Jr. and trainer Gary Capuano, Deputy Wanted pushed his five-race earnings to $11,200. Bred by Ellen Caines, he is the second foal out of the winning Sultry Song mare Swift and Sultry.

New York filly secures more black type for Ten Most Wanted
Karakorum Fugitive, a 3-year-old daughter of California's current leading second-crop sire, Ten Most Wanted, added another black-type placing to her blossoming record when she finished in a dead heat for third as the youngest entrant in the $67,950 Lottsa Talc Stakes, which attracted seven starters to the Belmont Park Widener Turf Course on July 11.
Unraced at 2, the filly's eight starts this year have yielded three victories and five placings, including a third in the $109,000 Bouwerie Stakes at the landmark New York racetrack on May 3. Making her grass debut in the seven-furlong Lottsa Talc, she was given a ground-saving trip by rider Eibar Coa, who nudged his 11-1 mount along the rail in midstretch. The James Jerkens trainee finished with interest and reached the wire in third alongside a fast-closing rival; the twosome arrived in tandem 1 1/2 lengths behind the winner.
With her second stakes placing in restricted, New York-bred company, Karakorum Fugitive pushed her overall bankroll to $112,996 for owner Karakorum Farm. In addition to being the top earner for her sire, she is the second stakes-caliber runner produced by the unraced Colonial Affair mare Royal Relic. Her breeder is Stonebridge Farm.

Ten Most Wanted represented by another multiple winner
On June 30, New Day Rising became the seventh multiple winner for the California-based second-crop sire Ten Most Wanted when she charged to an 18-1 upset victory over older distaffers at Suffolk Downs.
The Kentucky-bred filly, who broke her maiden as a juvenile last year, found the winner's circle for the second time following her strong effort in a $5,000 claiming test carded at one mile around the Massachusetts oval. Saddled by trainer Kevin Clark and ridden by jockey Orlando Bocachica, she broke from the gate sixth among the seven contenders and occupied that running position for the first half-mile of the race. The longshot hit her stride in the stretch, passed each of her remaining rivals with authority and drove to a half-length win in 1:42.83.
Produced by the unraced Cape Town mare Bowl of Cherrie's, New Day Rising has won two of 12 career starts and collected $12,721 in total purse money. The 3-year-old filly was bred by The Answer LLC, and is campaigned by owner Norman Walsh.
A 9-year-old son of Deputy Commander, Ten Most Wanted resides at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez. The 2003 Travers Stakes (G1) winner is currently ranked among North America's top 20 second-crop sires, with more than $500,000 in progeny earnings banked during 2009 alone. - June 30, 2009
Ten Most Wanted achieves winners in U.S. and England
Two runners from the introductory foal crop of the California-based stallion Ten Most Wanted recently tasted success in route races on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean. On June 23, the filly Wanted Lady collected her second winner's check in the American Midwest; two days later, the colt Parc des Princes broke his maiden in England.
Wanted Lady, a Kentucky-bred daughter of the stakes-winning Runaway Groom mare Runaway Fair Lady, returned to the same racetrack and the same $5,000 claiming level that produced her initial career win at Indiana Downs on May 19. Again facing her elders among the nine-horse field, she moved from fifth to first under jockey Fernando De La Cruz in the one-mile dirt test, reaching the finish in 1:41.20 with a 1 1/2-length win margin.
The 3-year-old filly is trained by Dewayne Gibson for owner Cordis Brown, and has banked $11,799 from nine starts to date. She was bred by Equus Farm.
On June 25, Parc des Princes competed on a different surface, and in a different country, but the result was the same as his cropmate's. The 3-year-old colt, who has made all eight of his career starts in England, finally found the winning formula in a 1 3/8-mile turf race at Warwick Racecourse, three days after he ran third at a different facility.
A $27,000 weanling purchase at the 2006 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, the Kentucky-bred colt handled six rivals in his 2 1/4-length maiden victory. Saddled by trainer A.M. Balding and ridden by Chris Catlin for the Calzaghe Partnership ownership group, he finished in 2:17.23 and pushed his overall earnings to £4,273 in the process.
Parc des Princes was produced by the winning Unfuwain mare Miss Orah (GB), and bred by Castletown Stud.

Ten Most Wanted runners thrive in California and Puerto Rico
Exhibiting a tendency to improve with age and distance, a pair of 3-year-old runners from the initial foal crop of Grade 1 winner Ten Most Wanted each captured a race over a route of ground - one on dirt and one on turf - on June 13.
California-bred Hudler, an impressive, 4 1/4-length winner in her six-furlong career debut on the Pro-Ride all-weather racing surface at Santa Anita Park in January, returned to the winner's circle four races later when she was moved to the turf at Hollywood Park.
In between her two winning efforts, Hudler made a pair of starts in stakes company: first on the New Mexico dirt in the $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks, then on Hollywood's main Cushion Track surface in the $200,000 Melair Stakes for state-breds. Although she showed early speed only to fade badly in both of those advanced 1 1/16-mile tests, Hudler relished the switch to the lawn and lesser company for her mid-June race, in which she ran the same distance for a $40,000 claiming price. Partnered for the first time with jockey Michael Baze and sent off at odds of 6-1, the J. Paul Reddam homebred led through every fraction and successfully held a fast-closing rival at bay for a three-quarter-length victory in 1:42.11.
Hudler is the first foal out of the Grade 3-placed, stakes-winning mare Sarah Jade, by Jade Hunter. She has earned $56,360 to date under the tutelage of trainer Doug O'Neill.
On the same day as Hudler's second win, her cropmate El Fugitivo achieved his first triumph several thousand miles away, in his native Puerto Rico.
Up against his elders in a nine-horse field, which assembled on a muddy surface for the $5,000 maiden claiming race at Camarero Race Track, the Arderson Santiago-trained colt stalked the early pace then rallied to a 4 1/4-length win margin under jockey Carlos Pizarro in a final time of 1:51.37 for the 1 1/16-mile distance. His victory in the restricted race was a dominating one; the runner-up finished 9 1/2 lengths clear of the third-place finisher, who was another 8 3/4 lengths ahead of the remaining runners.
El Fugitivo was produced by the Mt. Livermore mare Carpa, and bred by Wilfredo Alvarez. The $6,398-earner and seven-time starter is campaigned by Carlos Oyola Stable.

Ten Most Wanted keeps rolling with two first-crop winners
The rapidly emerging second-crop sire Ten Most Wanted continued to reap rewards from his offspring over the weekend of June 6-7, when a pair of youngsters from his initial crop defeated their elders while winning races in Iowa and Canada.
Making his eighth career start on June 6, Tenth Power overcame a five-wide trip at Prairie Meadows and managed to put his head in front of the pacesetter, his cropmate Kick Rocks, at the finish of a dirt race contested at one mile and 70 yards, earning his second lifetime victory in the process. The 3-year-old gelding, who was eligible to be claimed for $12,500, completed the distance in 1:43.58 under jockey Tommy Molina and returned a $29.20 win ticket to his backers at odds of 13-1.
Tenth Power was bred in Kentucky by H. Allen Poindexter and Southern Chase Farm, and now races for owner J.R. Lewis and trainer Thad Keller. He is out of Miss Fleet Diablo, a dual stakes-placed winner by Diablo, and has earned $17,645 to date.
Further north one day later, the 3-year-old gelding Ten Years After succeeded in breaking his maiden in a 6 1/2-furlong claiming test at Hastings Race Course in Vancouver, British Columbia. Entered for a $17,500 tag with Fernando Perez in the irons, the Florida-bred rallied from fifth to first in a late stretch drive and reached the wire with a three-quarter-length advantage in 1:19. The John Snow trainee collected $5,737 for his winning effort over five rivals, pushing his eight-race bankroll to $13,479.
Bred by Gem Racing Inc., Ten Years After is the first foal out of the unraced Peaks and Valleys mare Shar's Smile. He is owned by Ross McLeod.

Ten Most Wanted achieves winners in England and New York
Ten Most Wanted was credited with a pair of transatlantic winners in late May, when two members of the California stallion's initial foal crop captured races in New York and in England.
On May 26, his sophomore son Minturno broke his maiden against 11 foes in a six-furlong turf race at Redcar Racecourse in northern England. Sent to post at odds of 11-1 under jockey W.J. Supple, the colt managed to get up at the wire for a narrow victory in 1:12.28 despite missing the break and encountering traffic problems along the way.
Minturno is owned by Trevor Wilson and trained by Mrs. A. Duffield. He was originally sold at auction as a yearling in the United States, then re-sold at Goffs in Ireland as a 2-year-old in 2008. From six starts to date, he has earned £3,847.
Bred in Kentucky by Robert Francis, Minturno is out of Panama Jane, a winning daughter of Perrault (GB) who also produced the four-time stakes winner and 1999 Texas Champion 3-Year-Old Filly, Lydia Jane.
Two days after Minturno's breakout effort, Karakorum Fugitive revisited the winner's circle after she drew off to a 3 1/2-length victory in a one-mile allowance optional claiming event at Belmont Park.
The 3-year-old filly, who won her first two career starts at Aqueduct earlier this year, became her sire's initial black-type runner when she finished third in Belmont's $109,000 Bouwerie Stakes on May 3. In her May 28 follow-up race, she bested six other starters, including four of her elders, with a come-from-behind move under jockey Jose Lezcano as the 11-10 favorite. Her final time for the distance was 1:38.65.
Karakorum Fugitive earned $27,600 for her third successful outing from six starts, pushing her total bankroll to $98,700. The $15,000 sales yearling, who was produced by the Colonial Affair mare Royal Relic and bred in New York by Stonebridge Farm, currently competes for Karakorum Farm and trainer James Jerkens.

It's two more maiden winners for Ten Most Wanted
Grade 1 winner Ten Most Wanted, a recent addition to the California stallion ranks, was credited with two additional maiden winners this week, bringing his total number of first-crop runners to reach the winner's circle to 21.
On May 19, his daughter Wanted Lady made her 2009 debut a successful one when she rocketed her way to a 4 3/4-length victory in a maiden claiming event carded at one mile and 70 yards at Indiana Downs. Saddled by conditioner Dewayne Gibson and ridden in the $5,000 claiming contest by Fernando De La Cruz, the 3-year-old filly faced six of her elders in the eight-horse race, led at every call and ultimately reached the wire in 1:46.60 to post her first win from seven starts.
Bred in Kentucky by Equus Farm, Wanted Lady has earned $6,919 for owner Cordis Brown. She is out of the stakes-winning Runaway Groom mare Runaway Fair Lady.
Two days later, the 3-year-old colt Again Eleven fought his way to victory in a $12,500 claiming race for non-winners at Calder Race Course. Under jockey Carlos Montalvo, the Kentucky-bred chased the early pace in sixth along the inside, was forced to alter his course outside the leaders approaching the eighth pole and drew away for a 3 3/4-length win margin as the 5-2 wagering favorite. His final time for the seven-furlong race, which attracted 11 starters, was 1:27.38.
Again Eleven has made all 14 of his starts in Florida, and has earned $12,000 to date. He was bred by Sabine Stable and is currently trained by Angel Medina, who owns the colt in partnership with Luis Quercia. His dam is the Calder stakes winner Horah for Bailey, by Doneraile Court.

Ten Most Wanted tallies three more first-crop winners
The California-based stallion Ten Most Wanted yielded three additional maiden winners from his first crop during the weekend of May 15 through May 17, when a trio of his 3-year-old sons employed similar front-running tactics to capture races from Pennsylvania south to Puerto Rico.
Starting the win streak on May 15 was Wanted Fugitive, a colt out of the winning Woodman mare Markham Fair who sped to the lead and never looked back in a six-furlong, $7,500 maiden claiming event at Presque Isle Downs. Saddled by Gerald Brooks and ridden by Scott Spieth, the 10-time starter was third on the dirt in his two most recent outings, at Mountaineer Racetrack and Laurel Park, but finally found the all-weather surface at Presque Isle to his liking, setting fractions of :22.65, :46.43 and :58.79 before reaching the wire in 1:11.75 as a one-length winner. Bred in Pennsylvania by Gum Tree Stables LLC and owned by Costas Triantafilos, Wanted Fugitive defeated several older rivals and pushed his career earnings to $14,205.
In Puerto Rico, Demetrio's Law inherited the lead of a six-furlong test for non-winners at Camarero Race Track at the three-eighths pole, and drew clear to a 4 1/2-length victory over seven contenders in a final clocking of 1:12.69 on May 16. With jockey Luis Perez in the irons for the $12,000 claiming race, which was conducted on a muddy surface, the gelding won for the first time in five starts and brought his overall bankroll to $7,703 for owner Carlos Oyola Stable and trainer Arderson Santiago. Demetrio's Law was bred in New York by JMJ Racing Stables LLC, and produced by the stakes-placed winner High Silver, by Silver Charm.
On May 17, Kentucky-bred Kick Rocks, like his cropmates Wanted Fugitive and Demetrio's Law, exhibited speed when he outran eight other starters, including seven older horses, in a $7,500 maiden special weight race at the Lincoln State Fair in Nebraska. The Amber Slack-trained gelding, who was making his fifth lifetime start, led at every call of the one-mile race and ultimately posted a two-length score in 1:41.20 under jockey Michael Ziegler. Bred by R.S. Brown and owned by Ryan Stivers, Kick Rocks is the third foal out of the winning Coronado's Quest mare So Much Splendor.

Ten Most Wanted runners contribute to huge week for their sire
During the same week in which he recorded his first stakes horse, the young California stallion Ten Most Wanted displayed his scope by attaining three winners at three different distances at three different racetracks, and in a variety of race conditions. The winners all hail from his initial crop to race, and are 3-year-olds of 2009.
The most prominent of the trio made a splash on one of the sport's greatest stages: Churchill Downs on Kentucky Derby (G1) day, May 2. Luv Gov, a Kentucky-bred colt out of the winning Nepal mare City of Silver, relished his first start on a sloppy track and ran away with a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight test by an eye-opening 6 1/2 lengths. The 10-time starter, a Marylou Whitney Stables homebred who is conditioned by Racing Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, defeated 10 rivals in 1:44.41 and pushed his overall earnings to $62,896 with the services of jockey Miguel Mena.
One day earlier, the West Coast-based filly Lady Dawn captured her second race on the Tapeta racing surface at Golden Gate Fields. An 18-1 longshot in a one-mile test for $5,000 claiming fillies, she prompted the pace and moved forward with determination for a 1 1/4-length advantage at the wire, which she reached in 1:40.73 under rider Julio Garcia. Produced by the Bertrando mare Captural and bred in Kentucky by Wallace Dollase and Jess L. Miller Trust, Lady Dawn races for owner Gilman Racing and trainer Armando Lage, and has earned $13,390 from eight starts.
On May 6, Louisiana-bred Most Wanted Man capped his sire's prosperous, weeklong run when he topped a 14-horse field assembled for a seven-furlong dash at Evangeline Downs. The John Gelner-trained gelding, who was making his eighth lifetime start and first at the $10,000 maiden claiming level, translated an aggressive early move into a three-quarter-length win under Diego Saenz, defeating several of his elders in a final time of 1:26.15 on the fast dirt track. Bred by Daniel Chicola, Most Wanted Man is out of Mini Series, by Theatrical (Ire), and has banked $13,700.

First-crop Ten Most Wanted filly places in Belmont Park stakes
The California-based stallion Ten Most Wanted achieved a black-type horse from his first crop on May 3, when his 3-year-old daughter Karakorum Fugitive moved from last to third in the $109,000 Bouwerie Stakes at a rainy Belmont Park.
Contested by nine New York-bred fillies, the 32nd edition of the seven-furlong race was met with a sloppy track. Karakorum Fugitive, whose only previous start on an off-track resulted in an allowance victory over her elders at Aqueduct in February, was installed as the 5-1 third choice along with an entrymate, who was also carrying the black-and-red silks of owner Karakorum Farm.
The James Jerkens trainee dropped back after breaking slowly, but swung out six-wide at the quarter-pole and successfully passed all but two of her rivals under Jose Lezcano to complete the $445 trifecta, 8 1/2 lengths behind the winner, Sapphire Sky. She earned a $10,900 payday to bring her five-race bankroll to $71,100, solidifying her status as her sire's top earner to date.
A two-time winner who has never run off the board, Karakorum Fugitive was bred by Stonebridge Farm and produced by the Colonial Affair mare Royal Relic, the dam of 2008 New York stakes winner Mr. Windjammer.

Ten Most Wanted filly romps to nearly 10-length maiden victory
A 14th member of California stallion Ten Most Wanted's first crop found the winner's circle on April 18, when Mirada Profunda dominated a 1 1/16-mile race in Puerto Rico by nearly 10 lengths.
Facing six rivals in the $7,500 claiming test for fillies and mares at Camarero Race Track, 3-year-old Mirada Profunda broke a step slow from the gate, but jumped immediately into contention under jockey Ramon Vazquez. The duo took control a half-mile into the race and soon left no doubt about the outcome, drawing away to an ever-increasing advantage until they ultimately reached the wire in 1:50.46, 9 1/2 lengths ahead of the second-place finisher.
The John Maldonado trainee earned $3,990 for her first successful outcome from a dozen attempts, and improved her career bankroll to $5,912.
An $11,000 graduate of the 2007 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Mirada Profunda races for Establo Del Sur Luna. She was bred in Kentucky by Warrender Associates, and produced by the Opening Verse mare Chelsea My Love.

Ten Most Wanted gelding sprints his way to maiden victory
A change of scenery ushered in a favorable change of results for the Ten Most Wanted gelding Sleeve, a seven-time starter who relocated from one Louisiana racetrack to another in his successful quest for a maiden victory.
The Kentucky-bred gelding, who made the first six of his lifetime starts on both the dirt and turf at Fair Grounds in New Orleans, exhibited an immediate affinity for the main track at Evangeline Downs on April 9, when he outran 10 rival 3-year-olds to secure his inaugural career win at the Opelousas facility. Saddled by Victor Arceneaux and ridden by Gerard Melancon, Sleeve doggedly stalked the leader from second throughout the early portion of the five-furlong maiden special weight dash, took over in the stretch and reached the finish in a final time of :58.51 with a one-length advantage.
The H and H Ranch colorbearer pushed his total earnings to $22,120 with his determined run as the 6-5 favorite.
Sleeve was bred by Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Randal and produced by the stakes-placed winner Private Deputy, by Private Terms.

Ten Most Wanted attains the 12th winner from his first crop
Tenth Power, a first-crop son of the young California stallion Ten Most Wanted, outran 11 rivals, including three of his elders, on April 7 to break his maiden at Will Rogers Downs in Oklahoma.
Saddled by trainer Joe Lucas and carrying 118 pounds for the $15,000 maiden claiming test, the 3-year-old gelding stalked the pace between horses in fourth running position, angled out at the top of the stretch and drew clear for a one-length victory over 5-year-old Halo's Ko, the 2-1 favorite, in a final time of 1:10.16 for the six-furlong dirt race. He was ridden by Curtis Kimes, who leads all jockeys by wins at the current Will Rogers meet, and returned $7.20, $6 and $3.40 to his backers.
A Kentucky-bred out of Diablo's dual stakes-placed winner Miss Fleet Diablo, Tenth Power has raced five times in Oklahoma and New Mexico, and has earned $7,520. He was bred by H. Allen Poindexter and Southern Chase Farm and is owned by J.R. Lewis.

Red-hot sire Ten Most Wanted nabs 11th first-crop winner
New California resident Ten Most Wanted extended his recent hot streak on March 7, when he achieved his eighth winner of 2009 and 11th winner overall from his first crop to compete. The newest member of his inaugural foal crop to visit the winner's circle is his daughter Princess Mo, who captured a six-furlong race at Beulah Park.
The Kentucky-bred filly signaled her readiness to break her maiden with a rallying, second-place finish at the track and distance on February 13. Paired again with her rider from that day, Yuri Yaranga, 3-year-old Princess Mo defeated six rivals, including three older contenders, in the $4,000 claiming race for non-winners. Sent postward at odds of 5-2, she stalked the pace from the outside and drew clear in the stretch for a 2 1/2-length victory in 1:17.39.
Princess Mo is the second foal out of the unraced Kingmambo mare Another Princess. She was bred by J. Paul Reddam, who raced her Grade 1-winning sire as the principal owner in a 10-member partnership. During her seven-race career, the well-traveled youngster has competed at five different racetracks in California, Louisiana, Kentucky and Ohio, while collecting $4,770. She currently races for owner Billy Hays and trainer Joe Woodard.

Ten Most Wanted represented by first male winner, 10th overall
After siring nine winning females, the California stallion Ten Most Wanted was represented by his first male winner on March 1, when his 3-year-old son Axel Swagger captured a maiden claiming race at Fair Grounds.
The Kentucky-bred gelding, a member of his sire's 82-strong first crop, entered the Louisiana race off a fifth-place effort in his local career debut in early February. He ran 15 1/2 lengths behind the winner in that six furlong-race, but relished stretching out to one mile and 40 yards in his next outing.
Saddled by Ralph Nicks, Axel Swagger was put into the race early by jockey James Graham, and switched running positions from second to fifth while never more than three lengths behind the leader at any point. Splitting rivals as the eight-horse field entered the stretch, he got up for a half-length victory in 1:43.19 at odds of 7-1.
Although he was entered for a $15,000 claiming price, Axel Swagger returned to the barn as the property of Paul H. Saylor, a former co-owner of Eclipse Champion and seven-time Grade 1 winner Ashado who bred the gelding in the name of his PHS Racing LLC.
Axel Swagger is the first foal out of the unraced Not For Love mare Pawley Girl. His earnings from two starts stand at $10,200.
Relocated to Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, California for the 2009 breeding season, nine-year-old Ten Most Wanted previously stood in Kentucky and New York. The Grade 1 winner has sired the earners of more than $290,000, collectively, to date. - March 1, 2009
Ten Most Wanted notches four first-crop winners in three days
Second-crop sire Ten Most Wanted, who tallied year-end progeny earnings of $142,229 from his debut juvenile runners in 2008, has already doubled that fiscal achievement through just the first two months of 2009. His initial crop, now maturing as 3-year-olds, yielded four winners during a three-day span in February, with successful runners in New York, Louisiana, Ohio and Puerto Rico.
As is the case with all nine of the stallion's winners to date, each is a filly. Two of the recent winners are each undefeated from their two starts.
New York-bred Karakorum Fugitive won her second consecutive race on Aqueduct's inner track when she successfully stretched out from her six-furlong maiden victory on January 11 to a 1 1/2-length allowance victory at one mile and 70 yards on February 19. Bred by Stonebridge Farm and trained by James Jerkens, the Karakorum Farm colorbearer is her sire's top earner, with a $51,000 bankroll. She is out of Royal Relic, an unraced daughter of Colonial Affair.
One day after her counterpart's 4-5 victory in New York, 7-10 favorite Our Sassy Ten won by the same 1 1/2-length margin at Fair Grounds, defeating six rivals in a $30,000 claiming race carded at six furlongs for sophomore fillies. Produced by the winning Time for a Change mare Hour Star, Our Sassy Ten was claimed from owner/breeder Horizon Stable, et al and trainer Wallace Dollase by trainer Patrick Mouton on behalf of new owner Charles Brown. The Kentucky-bred dual winner has earned $29,400.
Also on February 20, Beulah Park provided the setting for the first career victory by Ann On the Run, an Ohio-bred filly who races for her breeder, Double D Farm Corp. Saddled by Jevon Crumley for a restricted, six-furlong maiden special weight race, she took command early and drew clear for a two-length score. Ann On the Run is out of the unraced Gate Dancer mare Ann Margot.
Completing her sire's three-day streak was Jersey'smostwanted, who inherited her initial career win in a 1 1/16-mile test at Camarero Race Track in Puerto Rico on February 18, when the first two finishers of the $5,000 maiden claiming race were disqualified for interfering with the New Jersey-bred runner. Produced by Boundary's winning daughter Moloko, Jersey'smostwanted was bred by JMJ Racing Stables and is conditioned by Juan Rodriguez for Latino Racing.

Strong stretch run leads to victory for Ten Most Wanted maiden
He finished his first year of eligibility third among California freshman sires by progeny earnings, but Ten Most Wanted has quickly moved to the head of the class among the state's second-crop sires of 2009. The newly relocated stallion was represented by his fourth winner of the year on February 15, when his daughter Lady Dawn unleashed a powerful late drive to capture a six-furlong maiden claiming race at Golden Gate Fields.
Unplaced in her three prior starts on three different surfaces at three different racetracks - Fairplex Park (dirt), Santa Anita Park (Pro-Ride) and Turf Paradise (turf), the well-traveled Lady Dawn found the Northern California track's Tapeta Footings surface to her liking. Racing near the back of the 10-horse field for the opening half-mile of the $8,000 claiming race for 3-year-old fillies, she responded to jockey Kyle Kaenel's urging in the stretch and flew past her rivals for a one-length advantage at the wire in a final time of 1:12.29.
The Kentucky-bred filly is owned by Gilman Racing and trained by Doug O'Neill. She was bred by Wallace Dollase and Jess L. Miller Trust, and has earned $6,340 from four starts. Lady Dawn was produced by the Bertrando mare Captural.

Ten Most Wanted achieves third maiden winner of new year
Newly transplanted California stallion Ten Most Wanted has wasted no time in making a name for himself in his adopted home state. The second-crop sire has jumped out to an early lead among the state's stallions in that category by siring his third debut winner of the 2009 racing season, which is barely three weeks old.
On the heels of the successful recent introductions in New York by Karakorum Fugitive, and in Louisiana by Our Sassy Ten, another filly from the Deputy Commander stallion's initial crop of runners broke her maiden at first asking, this time in front of a California audience. Like her counterparts, she also won by a wide margin.
The Doug O'Neill-trained Hudler, who races as a homebred for J. Paul Reddam, set all the pace in a six-furlong, $45,200 maiden special weight race at Santa Anita Park on January 18, overpowering her seven contenders by 4 1/4 lengths as the 7-1 fourth wagering choice. The California-bred filly completed her effort under Corey Nakatani in 1:09.84, and collected $26,400 to establish herself as her young sire's top earner.
Hudler is the first foal out of the Grade 3-placed stakes winner Sarah Jade, by Jade Hunter.

Ten Most Wanted kicks off new year with two debut winners
Second-crop sire Ten Most Wanted, a Grade 1 winner by Deputy Commander who recently relocated to California, kicked off the new year in style as the sire of two fillies who made splashy career debuts within a few days of each other in early January.
Newly turned 3-year-olds Our Sassy Ten and Karakorum Fugitive won their respective six-furlong races by a combined 10 1/2 lengths, but encountered entirely different trips in the process.
On January 9, the Wally Dollase-trained Our Sassy Ten was untested in her front-running, 6 1/4-length romp over nine rivals in a $50,000 maiden claiming test at Fair Grounds. Piloted by Jesus Castanon, the Kentucky-bred filly completed the distance in 1:11.27 as a 15-1 longshot, and earned $15,600 for Horizon Stable, et al. She is out of the winning Time for a Change mare Hour Star, and was bred by Five Star Stable.
Two days after Our Sassy Ten's successful first outing, Karakorum Fugitive matched the feat with a 4 1/4-length score of her own in a $41,000 maiden special weight race at Aqueduct. Paired with jockey Rosie Napravnik, the 9-2 filly was steadied after a slow break and forced to check in traffic nearing the turn, but she overcame the difficulties with a strong stretch kick and reached the wire first in 1:11.21 for trainer James Jerkens and owner Karakorum Farm. Out of the stakes-producing Colonial Affair mare Royal Relic, she was bred in New York by Stonebridge Farm and has earned $24,600.
Nine-year-old Ten Most Wanted was recently welcomed at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, California. The $1,718,460-earner has sired four winners, and is represented by cumulative progeny earnings of $185,089 to date. - January 11, 2009
