BEDFORD FALLS offers The Complete Package for California breeders: Pedigree, Physical, Performance, Potential and Prepotency.
BEDFORD FALLS is California’s only winning stallion by Storm Cat’s Grade 1-winning son Forestry, the sire of 45 stakes winners and the collective earners of more than $39 million. Forestry’s top runners include the Grade 1 winners Discreet Cat ($1,694,180), Diplomat Lady ($552,784) and Forest Danger ($423,000), as well as Shackleford ($3,090,101), winner of the 2011 Preakness Stakes (G1), 2012 Metropolitan Handicap (G1) and 2012 Clark Handicap (G1). Forestry is an emerging sire of sires: his son Old Forester was Canada’s leading first-crop sire in 2010, leading second-crop sire in 2011 and leading overall sire in 2012.
BEDFORD FALLS is a handsome, athletic, well-balanced individual who sold for $1.1 million to internationally renowned bloodstock expert John Ferguson during the opening session of the 2004 Keeneland September Yearling Sale - commanding a remarkable 22 times the stud fee of his sire. Of the 54 Forestry yearlings offered at public auction in 2004, Bedford Falls ranked second-highest in price.
BEDFORD FALLS began his racing career for powerhouse Darley Stable, and won or placed in 11 of his 15 lifetime starts on dirt, turf and all-weather surfaces, including coast-to-coast victories at three different racetracks at distances of six furlongs to one mile. He broke his maiden by 3 1/2 lengths in a one-mile dirt race at Belmont Park, ran second to 2008 Pacific Classic (G1) winner Go Between ($2,908,880) in a one-mile turf test at Gulfstream Park and placed in additional races at Saratoga Race Course and Hollywood Park.
BEDFORD FALLS is out of the multiple stakes-producing mare Christmas in Aiken, a winning daughter of 1978 Triple Crown winner and leading broodmare sire Affirmed. His third dam is Princessnesian, the last filly to win the prestigious Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap (in 1968) and a half-sister to the 1966 Santa Anita Derby winner and leading broodmare sire Boldnesian, the grandsire of the 1977 Triple Crown winner and historically significant sire Seattle Slew.
BEDFORD FALLS is a half-brother to North America’s 2012 leading sire of 2-year-olds: the multiple Grade 1 winner Harlan’s Holiday ($3,632,664). Runners from the first seven crops of Harlan’s Holiday include more than 60 stakes horses and the collective earners of more than $28 million. Among his graded/group stakes winners on dirt, turf and all-weather surfaces are Majesticperfection (G1-dirt), Into Mischief (G1-Cushion Track), Summer Applause (G2-dirt), Mendip (G2-Tapeta), Willcox Inn (G2-turf), Denis of Cork (G3-dirt), Riley Tucker (G3-dirt), Silver Reunion (G3-turf) and Tasha’s Miracle (G3-turf/G3-Polytrack). Harlan’s Holiday is also the sire of the 2012 Eclipse Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Shanghai Bobby, winner of the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1).
This filly from Bedford Falls’ second crop posted the co-fastest work for California-breds at the 2013 Barretts March Sale of Selected 2-Year-Olds in Training: one furlong in :9 4/5.
BEDFORD FALLS is represented by his first crop of 3-year-olds in 2013, a group which includes the multiple winners Beau Diablo and There Goes Donnie and the Santa Anita Park first-out winner Zuzu’s Petals. In addition, a filly from his second crop shared the fastest timed work for California-breds and the fastest timed work for all fillies during the under-tack preview for the 2013 Barretts March Sale of Selected 2-Year-Olds in Training: one furlong in a blazing :9 4/5.
BEDFORD FALLS is already exhibiting the uncommon ability to improve his mares. He ranked as the leading California freshman sire of 2012 by average earnings per starter and by Average Earnings Index. He is currently represented by average earnings per starter of more than $21,000, an impressive AEI of 1.17 and 75% winners from starters from his first crop to race.
