HARBOR THE GOLD is a well-bred winner who has been a hit since his first runners reached racing age.
HARBOR THE GOLD won or placed in five of his nine starts, and his two wins were spectacular: by seven lengths at Belmont Park (see photo) and by 5 3/4 lengths at Aqueduct. He competed exclusively at top-tier racetracks: Belmont Park, Saratoga Race Course, Aqueduct and Santa Anita Park.
HARBOR THE GOLD offers a powerful pedigree, both top and bottom. He is by Mr. Prospector's outstanding son Seeking the Gold, a Grade 1-winning earner of more than $2.3 million who has sired the collective earners of more than $92 million, including champions Dubai Millennium, Seeking the Pearl, Heavenly Prize, Catch the Ring and Flanders. His dam, a stakes-winning daughter of the top sire and broodmare sire Vice Regent, produced the Eclipse Champion 2-Year-Old Boston Harbor ($1,934,605). His second dam produced five stakes horses, including the Eclipse Champion Sprinter Groovy ($1,346,956).
HARBOR THE GOLD was represented by his first crop of runners in 2008. He quickly emerged as Oregon's leading freshman sire, with a remarkable three stakes winners (38%) from his first eight starters. Among his first-crop stakes winners were the 2008 Washington Champion 2-Year-Old Colt/Gelding Noosa Beach ($520,722) and the 2008 Oregon Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Catalina Harbor. In 2009, Noosa Beach won two stakes races at Emerald Downs and placed in the $278,902 British Columbia Derby (G3) in Canada, and was subsequently honored with a second statewide title as the 2009 Washington Champion 3-Year-Old Colt/Gelding. He returned again in 2010 to win five additional stakes races at Emerald Downs, including the $50,000 Seattle Handicap in track-record time for six furlongs (1:07) and the $203,125 Longacres Mile Handicap (G3), the latter of which is conducted annually as the premier race in the Pacific Northwest. For his outstanding efforts, Noosa Beach was honored as the 2010 Washington Horse of the Year and Champion Handicap Horse/Gelding. In 2011, he has won four additional stakes races in Washington and Canada as the premier handicap horse in the Pacific Northwest.
HARBOR THE GOLD repeated his dominance as Oregon's leading second-crop sire of 2009. He also reigned as Oregon's leading sire of 2-year-olds, and was represented by two multiple stakes-winning juveniles from this crop: Koala Beach ($128,826) and 2009 Washington Champion 2-Year-Old Colt/Gelding Hollywood Harbor ($100,961). In 2010, Koala Beach returned to win the $50,000 Pepsi Cola Handicap for 3-year-olds at Emerald Downs.
HARBOR THE GOLD ascended to the top of the progeny earnings list in 2010 as the leading overall sire in Oregon, with year-end progeny earnings of $651,327. From his third crop of 2-year-olds to race, he was represented by the Canadian stakes winner Missisissy and the Emerald Downs multiple stakes winners Carrabelle Harbor ($101,541) and Couldabenthewhisky ($151,642), the latter of whom was named 2010 Washington Champion 2-Year-Old Colt/Gelding. Carrabelle Harbor, Couldabenthewhisky and another runner from this crop, Midda's Gold Touch, have won stakes races in 2011.
HARBOR THE GOLD is siring quality racehorses. In addition to boasting 66% winners from starters, 16 of his 39 winners are stakes performers — that's a remarkable rate of 41%! He greatly improves his mares, with an Average Earnings Index of 1.02 compared to his Comparable Index of 0.50. To date, he has accrued total progeny earnings of more than $1.7 million and average earnings per starter of more than $29,000.
