2010 Freshman Sire Contest Rules
Overview | Rules | Stallions | Entry Form | Contest News | Contest History

Participation in the Thoroughbred Information Agency's 2010 Don Engel California Freshman Sire Contest is free, and is open to United States residents over the age of 18 who submit an official online entry form through the www.thoroughbredinfo.com website by 5 p.m. (Pacific) on Tuesday, April 20, 2010.

Only one entry per person will be accepted; if more than one entry is submitted, only the earliest entry will be used. All entries are considered final upon submission.

Prizes will be awarded to the contestants who finish first through fifth overall, based on points allocated to the top five California-based first-crop sires by progeny earnings accrued in 2010. The year-end list published by "Thoroughbred Times" in January 2011 will serve as the official statistical resource for this contest.

To enter, contestants must submit the names of five eligible stallions, ranked in the order of their predicted finish among the California freshman sires of 2010. Points will be allocated as follows:

  • A stallion selected as #1 who finishes first in the year-end standings will earn 15 points.
  • A stallion selected as #2 who finishes first or second in the year-end standings will earn 10 points.
  • A stallion selected as #3 who finishes first, second or third in the year-end standings will earn 5 points.
  • A stallion selected as #4 who finishes first, second, third or fourth in the year-end standings will earn 2 points.
  • A stallion selected as #5 who finishes first, second, third, fourth or fifth in the year-end standings will earn 1 point.

In the event of a tie among contest participants, a tiebreaker will come into play. When entering the contest, each participant must predict the total year-end earnings of the top-ranked California freshman sire of 2010 (whether or not that particular stallion is included among their five contest selections). The contestant who submits the closest dollar amount to the actual dollar amount of year-end earnings will be declared the winner. If a tie still exists, prize winners will be determined by random draw.

The contest period will end at the conclusion of racing on December 31, 2010. Winners will be notified by mail or email after the 2010 California freshman sire rankings are finalized and published by "Thoroughbred Times" in January 2011. After the winners are notified, the official contest results will be posted on www.thoroughbredinfo.com.

By entering the contest, all prize winners automatically grant permission to Thoroughbred Information Agency (TIA) to use their respective names in any official contest announcements and promotions.
